The 2025 Nova Labs Open House, October 18th

We are opening our doors to the public with our 2025 Open House! This is a great opportunity for us to show the community how we've transformed our makerspace since we moved to Fairfax City in 2022. The mural on the outside of the building, on Jermantown Road, is one clue that we have been fulfilling our commitment to improve the space and the building. And with big thanks to our volunteers, we have upgraded plumbing, wiring, flooring, HVAC, and so much more. Now it's time for us to show it off in a fun and interactive way!

“Our last Open House in 2023 was a huge hit and a great way to introduce Nova Labs to Fairfax City.  But we've come a very long way since then and we are looking forward to showing off our new capabilities, the talents of our members, and what a unique and amazing place we have to offer our local community” says Patrick Marstall, President of Nova Labs.

COME LEARN ABOUT NOVA LABS

As a makerspace, the “maker” culture is definitely a big part of Nova Labs. Members pay for access to hundreds of state-of-the art tools, but also to participate in the culture of making and learning. Those members who are most proficient help train others on the proper use of tools and equipment. Collaborative projects like the building renovation provide a great opportunity for teaching, learning and community building.

The space includes tools for blacksmithing, CNC, 3D-printing, textiles, woodworking, woodturning, metalworking, laser cutting, sewing, textiles, arts, welding, robotics, stained glass, and so much more. Many members have used these tools to jump-start a business or build a prototype, while others come to meet, learn, teach or create within the community.

“I love the community and culture here at Nova Labs because makers are always experimenting. This place provides the opportunities to explore that members can’t find elsewhere” says Jalene Gelana, Community Manager at Nova Labs.

LEARN HOW NOVA LABS PROGRAMS SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY

Nova Labs programs inspire members of all ages! For example, the Nova Labs MakerSchool provides summer camps and after school activities for kids K-12. The Workforce Development pilot program provides certifications and training for high school students and adults who are interested in machine learning to enhance career opportunities. We are also piloting a program for local high school students and teachers who wish to add hands-on learning to their STEAM curriculum. And our award-winning FIRST Robotics team is preparing for competition season to kick off.

MEET NOVA LABS MEMBERS

The Open House on October 18th will include self-guided tours, live demonstrations that are appropriate for the entire family, hands-on making opportunities for kids, a chance to take home amazing artwork made by our members, and a chance to see behind the mural.

The event is free and registration is encouraged: www.nova-labs.org/openhouse
