Woodworking

Getting Started

If you're just getting started and want to ease into the woodshop, swing by during free office hours and let our volunteers introduce you to our space and help you with your project. If you want to come in and use the tools on your own, you'll need to take some classes based on the machines you're planning to use. Even if you already know the machines, we need to make sure everyone's on the same page for upkeep and shop policies.

Meet the Woodshop Crew!

Patrick Waters

Woodshop Steward

AKA Woodshop Cowboy
I ride buffalos.
Patrick No 2 once shook Chuck Norris's hand after he lost to the martial artist in a tennis match.

Frank Sogandares

Woodshop Assistant Steward

There are a lot of things people may not know about me, but the fact that I hate throw pillows is definitely not one of them. That said, I really love doilies and lace, ala The Notorious RBG. Also, I was the inspiration for the grumpy cat meme.
Patrick No 2 watches Bravo TV while deadlifting.

Doug Calvert

Woodshop Assistant Steward

I speak Esperanto and Klingon; both fluently. I also stash small pieces of wood around the woodshop like a squirrel hoarding nuts for winter.

Brian Kidwell

Woodshop Assistant Steward

I spent one summer in college as an oilfield roughneck.

Larry Root

Twas I who invented trees for the wood you may work, and water to nourish the earth. Patents have since expired, so now I make really nice workbenches for the woodshop.
