What is Green Orientation (GO)?
The Green Orientation class discusses our code of conduct, safety policy, etiquette, and procedures. It is very important to helping spread our culture and expectations and is one of the important ways we make sure that people integrate into our community.
Do I Need to Complete GO?
If you want to work independently at Nova Labs in any capacity, you must take GO. You may take many classes at Nova Labs without completing GO; however, if you want to receive a sign off so that you can use the tools on your own, you must take GO.
How Do I Attend GO?
Green Orientation classes are held weekly. Check the Nova Labs MeetUp calendar
to register. Please note that GO classes are not posted more than two weeks in advance, or until the previous class is full. If you are not able to find one, or if you are unable to find a class with open spaces, send a friendly email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll put one up.
How Do I Buy a Day Pass As an Attendee?
Day passes are available for $15 per day. They are only good on the day of purchase. You may purchase one at the front desk during open hours, or from a key member who has been trained on the issuance process. You must be at least 18 years old and have documented Green Orientation to use Nova Labs independently. Use of Yellow and Red tools require their applicable sign offs. The day pass includes an access card to the Shop area. Day pass holders are allowed to use the equipment from the time of purchase until the lab closes.
Why Do We Need Memberships?
Membership dues and individual donations fund our rent, utilities, supplies, activities, tools, materials, and everything else. Without the support of our community, the Nova Labs space would not exist. You make this makerspace possible!
What Are the Differences Between Associate and Key Members?
Associates have full access to Nova Labs when the space is open. Key members, however, have 24/7 access and a key to the front door. Associates are welcome 5:30 to 8:30 on weekdays, 1:00 to 4:00 on weekends, during open office hours, and any other time a key member opens the facility as indicated by the door status (please see the status indicator in the page footer for the current state). The use of any designated Yellow or Red tools still require the appropriate sign offs. Additional perks and responsibilities to being a Key Member outlined below.
What Are the Benefits of Key Membership?
Key Membership comes with full 24/7 access and a few other benefits, but also requires added responsibility to the space and community. Benefits include a tote bag and storage bin in the woodshop, a @nova-labs.org email account, free meeting room reservations, and the option to add one family member for free (with additional family members only $10/month).
How Do I Become a Key Member?
To be selected as a key member, you need to be sponsored by another member, have a proven track record of contributions to our community and space (minimum of five volunteer hours), and receive approval from the Board of Directors. The first step to Key Membership is to get to know our community, so come on in and get involved!
