Early in January, Nova Labs hosted The George Washington University’s Design, Build, Fly team for a RC model aircraft build. While GW’s shops have been closed, several members of the team became associate members of NL and coordinated with leaders at Nova Labs to get supervision on the handful of tools needed for their project. Special thanks to Gari Jimenez, Patrick Thompson, Patrick Waters, and Bo Wernick, for their assistance and expertise in the mixed media bay, the metalshop, and electronics bench.
After a few days of machining, building, and lots of caffeine, the GW DBF team completed their aircraft. The aircraft, dubbed “Billy Ray Cyrus” after the famous country singer and father of Miley Cyrus, made history as the first in GW DBF’s 5-year existence to fly successfully.
The George Washington Design, Build, Fly team is very grateful to Nova Labs for supporting the team and looks forward to returning in March for the next aircraft build!
We are open! See our COVID-19 Phase III reopening guidelines.
