Two more workbenches are complete. They are based on this Instructable. I really liked the simple design, and they turned out pretty solid, rigid and square. The cost was around $35-$40 per bench, time is about 3-4 hours for one person working with hand tools. One lesson is that the final assembly is better be done in the target location for the bench. Since the floors tend to be not perfectly level everywhere, a little play in the joints before all the screws are driven in helps to put all the legs firmly on the floor.
I have full cut list and assembly instructions on the wiki. We will need at least 3 or 4 more, some of them in custom sizes. This is a good project for a group build.
Below is one of the benches in its natural habitat, after Jason and his army of minions spent some time decorating it this weekend.
